For months, I've been working on rewrites of a manuscript that I love. Everytime I read through a chapter, it amazes me that I continue to find: characterization that I feel has been missed, or 'deep point of view' opportunities, or continuity missteps.
Prior to beginning my rewrites, this time, I took a month off from writing, and I only read. I read everything. Giving myself a break from writing, I believe, opened my mind, and allowed me to see what I had been missing. Some things my critique partners couldn't point out to me because they didn't know where I was taking my story.
What works best for you?
